Service Description

Glassblowing, lampworking, flame working & scientific glassblowing..... These are some of the terms for the type of experiences we offer here at Brighton Glassblowing. We heat our glass using tools called torches & not furnaces, like traditional glassblowing. This makes it much more approachable for novices to learn & succeed. You do it all, that is what makes our experiences different to the rest. You can stand or sit at our communal table, where up to 5 of you can make your glass creations, in a safe & comfortable environment, made specifically for teaching glassblowing. Each person works on their own torch, with their own tools & you can take home your creations at the end of your experience too. The experiences starts at 1pm, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday only. Choose from a 90min or 3 hour experience. Please note. The experiences are run consecutively & you can not book a 90min session blowing glass on its own. You will need to book the 3 hr session to blow glass as the extra time allows for enough experience for you to succeed, as you do it all, not me. In the 90 min experience, you work in solid glass only. This allows you to learn & get comfortable as you start to be able to control the glass & you then make a pendant or similar by yourself. You don't blow glass in a 90min session due to the time constraints & the necessity of experience & safety needed to control molten glass by yourself, as it goes to another level in terms of challenge. In the 3 hour session we start as in the 90 min session with you making the solid item & becoming more familiar with controlling the glass. You then go on in the second half of the session & start glassblowing, learning how to control hollow forms, decorate & create something in hollow glass all by yourself. We change the items you make seasonally, so you can make something different each time you come along. At the end of your experience, you take home what you made. What to expect.. You'll be provided with specialist protective glasses or clip-ons needed to work the glass. A quick word on safety in the studio. Small intro the wonderful world of glass & a demonstration. You then start with exercises to get you going & build your confidence. You then start making the items in stages as I demo the process intermittently. We increase the challenge as we go, till you complete the items. The items are allowed to cool after annealing & then you take home your own creation & memento.
